The world of Aruna Kambhatla
Aruna Kambhatla is a self-taught artist whose work explores the presence of the divine through contemporary interpretations of traditional Indian art forms. Drawing from Tanjore painting, Pichwai traditions, and her training in fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York, she creates works that balance devotion with modern abstraction. Working primarily in oils and acrylics, her paintings are marked by bold colour, layered symbolism, and a contemplative visual language. Her recent body of work reimagines Srinathji through contemporary compositions, minimalist forms, and expressive landscapes, marrying spiritual iconography with a distinctly modern aesthetic. Shifting between bold and subtle to satisfy her restless and experimental mind to express her thoughts. Deeply influenced by spiritual teachings, Kambhatla’s practice seeks to evoke peace, grace, and spiritual presence while remaining intuitive and deeply personal. Her feminine based work is more emotionally meditative figurative work making one contemplate on the emotional vulnerability or strength of the figure. Whichever way you look at, the idea is to lead one into inner silence.
